Fema Clubs
Background
Femina HIP encourages the set up of Fema reader clubs in secondary schools. A Fema Club is a group of five or more people who believe in promoting healthy lifestyles, brought together by their trust in and devotion to the Fema magazine. A variety of activities are undertaken by our Clubs, ranging from peer education and community education, to small-scale environmental activities. Club members encourage voluntarism and civic engagement as well as a culture of reading.
Today, there are 617 registered Clubs, most of which have democratic constitutions, elected leaders and an agenda of objectives and activities. The Clubs report back to Femina HIP on a regular basis. Fema magazine dedicates two pages to dialogue with the Clubs and publishes their news, photos, greetings and contributions.
Awards
The Club movement has grown so fast that it was decided to introduce annual awards to recognise and encourage the enthusiastic work of Fema Clubs and the teachers that help promote them. Hence, the Fema Club of the Year, and Fema Teacher of the Year awards are given at Femina HIP’s annual Youth Conference. Femina HIP also selects four ambassadors yearly to youth who have made an outstanding contribution to educating others by sharing Fema magazine and newfound knowledge.

Youth Conferences
The youth conferences, with participants from every region, are another example of Femina HIP’s outreach activities. Such large-scale interactive forums complement Femina’s field activities by enabling our network of members and various partners to come together and share experiences. Ministry representatives participate to endorse and support our activities. Clubs and partner organizations learn from each other and provide us with feedback which is essential to our research and the further development of Femina HIP.
