Femina HIP Executive Director greets Minister Maghembe, Minister Sitta at anniversary event
Betty Liduke receives Outstanding Achievement Award at anniversary event

Celebrating 10 years of resounding Tanzanian voices
In 2009, Femina HIP celebrated its 10-year anniversary! We kick-started the year with a big birthday event and the anniversary is being marked in all Femina HIP’s media products throughout the year.

In February, Femina HIP hosted a big festivity for our partners, stakeholders and friends – the whole Femina HIP family. The event was a celebration of resounding Tanzanian  voices. The venue was the big Mama Afrika Circus Tent in Dar es Salaam, which on that night was packed with speeches, awards, music and dance!

Close to 400 guests attended the festivities including dignitaries such as the Minister of Education and Vocational Training, the Minister of Community Development, Gender and Children and the Minister of Employment, Labour and Youth Development. Several  donor-country ambassadors attended the event along with Femina HIP’s partner organisations.

Awards were given to teacher and club of the year and special awards were given for outstanding achievement to individuals who have made exceptional contributions to their communities and to Femina HIP's work over the years.

Essay competition: “How Femina HIP changed my life”
In connection to the jubilee, an essay competition was launched. Contributions from all over the country poured in and a total of 571 essays were received. The theme was “How Femina HIP changed my life” and the first prize was 1 million TSH! The essays  form a unique testimony of contemporary Tanzanian life and bear witness to how Femina HIP media products have, during the past decade, shaped a generation of young Tanzanians by giving them VOICE to speak up about their livestyles, experiences,
choices and dreams.

Femina HIP plans to publish a selection of essays in a separate booklet. You can download the winning essay in Swahili or English.
