Fema Clubbers Ruka Juu

Students gather for the annual conference to launch new show, Ruka Juu (Jump Up)

“Ruka Juu! Jenga Maisha Yako.” (“Jump Up! Build Your Life.”) was the slogan under which 110 students and teachers came together in Dar es Salaam for Femina HIP's annual Youth Conference during the week of January 24th. Participants of 35 Fema Clubs from all over Tanzania took part in focus group discussions, debates, workshops and presentations, all of them revolving around self-empowerment, especially through youth entrepreneurship and financial education.

Fema Clubbers, together with representatives from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Labour and Employment, also witnessed the launch of Ruka Juu, this year's special season of Fema TV Talk Show.

As part of the programme, Tupime Tujue Fema Club from Lugoba Secondary School held a presentation about how they carry out their activities and the responsibilities each member has. Many new contacts were established afterwards, with other Fema Clubbers keen to know more about the Club's work.

Testimonials from entrepreneurs Benno J. Chelele and Astronaut Bagile, two of the judges from Ruka Juu na Fema TV Talk Show, formed another part of many highlights from the conference. They spoke about how they started their businesses, the challenges they came across and achievements they made. Students asked lots of questions and Beno and Bagile were happy to answer them right away.

Attendants also were provided with magazines, publications, an entrepreneurship book and a Fema User Guide.

From an out-of-school youth
Why is it when you talk about starting FEMA CLUBS you only talk about secondary school students? What about youth from the streets, don’t they need to start clubs? Ahazi Asoni from Ifwenken.
