Femina HIP Gears Up For Youth Conference
We’re putting livelihood and income generation high on the agenda.
The link between healthy lifestyles and economic empowerment has been one source of motivation behind the theme for Femina HIP’s upcoming annual youth conference. Fema Clubs, together with their guardians and teachers, from across Tanzania are gathering in Dar es Salaam to explore the topic: “From Life Skills to Livelihood: Promoting Entrepreneurship Education in School Settings.”
Taking place from 25 to 27 January, the conference will be graced by guest of honour Dr. Milton Makongoro Mahanga, Deputy Minister for Labour, Employment and Youth Development.
Other guests include Mrisho Mpoto, celebrity poet and ambassador for the solar lamp company D.light, representatives from D.light, and various Femina HIP partners.
Discussions will cover entrepreneurship in the school setting and how generate income through Fema Clubs.
Activities will include facilitated discussions and group work, as well as announcements and award presentations for the Fema Club and Fema Teacher of the year. Also awarded will be the Femina HIP ambassadors and the winners of a recent essay competition organised by Femina HIP and D.light.
Femina HIP and D.light recently began collaboration on a “Right To Safe Lights” campaign, which promotes solar lamps as a safe and healthy replacement for the dangerous candles or gas lamps often used by students to study at night. D.light also offers opportunities for youth to become entrepreneurs by going to different communities, educating people about solar energy and selling solar lamps.
For the past three years, Femina HIP has been using the annual youth conference to bring together students and teachers who have dedicated themselves to Fema magazine and the Femina HIP approach to healthy lifestyles. The goal of the conference is to create a forum where beneficiaries of Femina HIP products can meet each other as well as the staff, engage in thought-provoking discussions on selected themes related to life skills, and come up with action plans on how to move forward with challenges in the school setting.
