Mpoto launches video with D.light and Femina HIP

The video for Mama Siwema is the latest from the Right To Safe Light campaign.

Last week saw the release of a powerful new music video from poet Mrisho Mpoto and singer Ismail. The video is for the song Mama Siwema, and it’s the latest from the Right To Safe Light campaign.

Mama Siwema tells the story of a woman who suffers senseless tragedy when her child dies from a school fire that starts from a kerosene lamp used to study. The video shows Mpoto, the Right To Safe Light ambassador, interacting with a community mourning the death.

The Right To Safe Light campaign, coordinated by solar lamp company D.light Design and Femina HIP, has been running since January of 2010 and promotes the use of solar lamps as clean safe alternatives to more dangerous light sources such as candles and kerosene lamps. The campaign also promotes youth entrepreneurship, and particularly raises awareness about opportunities for youth to become D.light solar lamp entrepreneurs.

The official launch for the video took place at an event in Dar es Salaam on 15 September, and was hosted by Femina HIP and D.light.
