Early this month, Femina HIP’s Community Mobilisation team travelled to the region of Rukwa for a week of road shows, school visits and meetings with local government officials about how the organisation works and how its media products can be used.

The team learned about community challenges such as youth lacking opportunity to hold activities through organisation beyond school. Femina HIP held talks with local government about how to support young people, as well as the importance of using a “combination-prevention” approach. The goal was to explain why Femina HIP addresses good governance, green jobs, civic education, financial literacy and entrepreneurship as part of HIV/AIDS prevention.

During the same week, Femina HIP held a total of three road shows, where the agenda included a discussion on Life Skills, Entrepreneurship and the Right to Safe Lights campaign about the use of solar lamps, entertainment from local community groups and Q&A sessions.

Seventeen secondary schools were visited in four districts: In Sumbawanga Urban and Rural - Itwelele, Kizwite, Kantalamba, Msakila, Mazwi, Sumbawanga and Kilimani. In Kalambo District – Mtipe, Msanzi, Matai, Ulungu and Kanyerere. In Nkasi District - Mlindikwa, Chala, Mtenga, Mkole and Nkasi.

From an out-of-school youth
Why is it when you talk about starting FEMA CLUBS you only talk about secondary school students? What about youth from the streets, don’t they need to start clubs? Ahazi Asoni from Ifwenken.
