Touching Base in Kagera

We recently visited 28 schools and several community organisations across the region.

The Community Mobilisation team was on the road again this March, meeting different communities in Kagera to discuss life skills and entrepreneurship, a rather hot topic we’ve been discussing more and more with our audiences now. Activities included school visits, road shows and meetings with several local government officials and NGOs.

The team also talked with community members about Femina HIP products and how they are engaging with them, whether our publications are fitting their needs. We learned that Fema and Si Mchezo! magazines are widely used as educational tools in all 28 secondary schools they visited, as well as civil society organisations. Local Fema Clubs built a connection with ZamZam Youth Development Centre - an organisation concerned with HIV/AIDS prevention and education. They work closely with district authorities and ICAP (International Center for AIDS Care and Treatment Programs) to promote male circumcision.

Although Femina HIP's publications are distributed widely in Kagera region, there is still a huge demand for more copies, as we received requests from more than 70 schools and several NGOs.

From an out-of-school youth
Why is it when you talk about starting FEMA CLUBS you only talk about secondary school students? What about youth from the streets, don’t they need to start clubs? Ahazi Asoni from Ifwenken.
A request from Handeni
