I Have Found Myself in Fema Magazine

By Jamal Kassim of Mayuhai High School, Lindi

My name is Jamal Kassim, a 20-year-old form six student at Mayuhai High School in Lindi, Mtama District. I come from a single parent family with three brothers, one sister, and our mother living in a small house.

In my journey to join the Fema Club, drawings that attract reality, now that I saw them in the magazine, I learned a lot through what is represented in Fema magazine. So, I was convinced to join Fema Club. I was initially confused about puberty and found it hard to ask questions due to embarrassment.

The Fema Club provided a platform to learn about puberty and its consequences, filling the gap left by family discussions. At least our mother can educate my sister on issues of puberty, but for boys was a challenge to ask for some things since there is only one parent.

I was unable to ask about puberty issues to my mother. The Club helped me understand topics like wet dreams and showcased real-life scenarios through Fema magazine.

I was also inspired by features on famous personalities like goalkeeper Aishi Manula, sparking a desire to explore more in the Fema magazine. Through the club, I improved my English language skills and gained knowledge on sexual transmitted diseases like UTIs and fungus.

Moreover, the club promotes collaboration with other clubs to address issues like school dropout due to puberty- related challenges. In Fema Club we craft messages on pieces of wood to provide education to colleagues.

Overall, Fema Club has facilitated my personal growth and decision-making, leading to positive impacts in both my family and community.
